It’s one of the most important days of your life. That’s why you invested the time, energy, and money into making it all that you imagined. As your wedding photographer, it’s my role to capture all moments of this day that you’ve created. That is also why it is so equally important to safely store the wedding gallery that it produces. The following are the best practices that I share with all of my couples for protecting their wedding photo gallery.
I’m sure you don’t need convincing when it comes to protecting your wedding day photography at all costs. At the same time, I’ve heard too many stories of photos being lost in ways that could have entirely been prevented. Let’s make sure that your photos are covered in every possible way!
Ensuring safe storage for your wedding photography gallery always begins with your photographer. No matter how tired I am after returning home from a wedding, I always immediately back up the entire wedding photoshoot onto three separate devices.
Two of these devices live in my house in a fireproof box while the other is safely positioned offsite. I maintain all of these copies until I deliver the final gallery and hear back from the client that they love the photos. These precautions may seem a little excessive, but this is the quality of care that you should receive from your wedding vendors.
I can’t emphasize enough how important it is to have this outlook on such valuable items. While other precious possessions can be restored, your wedding photo gallery, if fully lost, can never be replaced. That’s why we take such measures and go so far to confirm that your photography is secure.
Apart from a new spouse and some amazing memories, your wedding photography is the primary item you walk away with from your day. It’s my role to transfer these precious memories to you with the confidence that you will possess them forever. There are several ways to make this happen and I’m here to walk you through those options!
First, a word on social media storage. While many rely upon social media platforms to store their memories, you must consider their limited file size. Social media sites actually shrink the file size of the images which therefore reduces the quality of the photo.
This means you’ll never be able to print a larger version of the photos when you try to download them. I would not recommend social media as a means of storing your photos, but definitely as the place to share them!
The wedding photo gallery link that I provide remains live for one year. Be sure to enjoy and share it! Send the gallery along to your closest friends and family and have them download the photos to their computers. The gallery link is an easy tool to both share photos with loved ones while getting another backup. The more copies of your wedding photos that are out there the better!
Saving your photos to multiple external hard drives is ideal for the very rare chance that even the best hard drive becomes corrupted. Here are two hard drives that I recommend:
Cloud storage is a must because it keeps your photos safe in the event of a natural disaster, physical damage, computer crashes or hard drive corruption. I personally use Backblaze but there are more inexpensive or even free options:
Uploading your photos to the cloud isn’t hard but it also isn’t always simple. If you run into issues with this then YouTube is your best friend!
It would insanely be a crime not to print these bangers! Do whatever version of printing that works for you, just don’t skip it! Here are some ideas of how to make good use of your wedding photo gallery:
There are many ways that you can create your own photo albums:
Your photos are a physical representation of memories from a day that would be impossible for you to forget. That doesn’t make it any less important to store, save, and print them as soon as you can! Let’s give this day and the amount of financial investment, time and energy you put into it the level of importance it deserves. If you haven’t already, get started with saving your photos now!
